Meeting on Saturday at 10am at TBPS!

Just a reminder that we have our second summer meeting on Saturday morning at 10am at TBPS.  Our theme is visual arts, so the girls will be working on the following badges and I'll have the materials for the activities in each:

Daisies:  Honest & Fair petal

  • Review art books
  • Share examples of being honest or fair
  • Create a drawing of you doing something that is honest or fair (with Brownies)
  • Work on an image/logo for honest & fair (with Juniors)
  • hear Cadettes' stories about honesty and fairness

Brownies: Painting badge
  • Review art books for 5 favorite paintings
  • Paint a still life
  • Create a sticky note that represents an emotion (with Daisies)
  • Paint with different objects
  • Create a collective mural with the theme of "honest & fair"

Juniors:  Drawing badge

  • Replicate a still life with 3 types of meia
  • Practice hatching/cross-hatching
  • Create a "bug's-eye view" (review
  • Work with a Daisy to create a logo for "honest & fair"
  • At home - create a portfolio to save pictures of projects/activities

Cadette:  Comic Artist badge

  • Flip through some graphic art novels
  • Create each of the 9 sticky notes listed in the Girls' Guide, then create a story around them
  • Tell a funny story about yourself re: honest & fair (with Daisies)
  • Free draw a character from that story
  • Refine that character with facial expressions or body postures
  • Add words to that character/story

Generally speaking, I'd like to have an adult help with each girl group once we start the school year since I'd like to provide the girls an opportunity to finish a badge per meeting.  Girls can work at their own pace or start each activity and finish at home; we know that some girls will quickly tire of some activities and others will want to sink in...so make some space to continue the activities at home, if your girl wants to pursue the content further.

Our agenda for each meeting will typically be:
  1. Check-in and pay dues
  2. Select a job from the kaper chart
  3. Meeting starts with a circle:
    1. Girl Scout Promise
    2. Check-in with the day's theme in mind
    3. Song
    4. Business updates or troop decision-making
    5. Overview of day's activities
  4. Badge activities
    1. Once girls get started, this is usually when we'll have the parent meeting
  5. Meeting closing in a circle:
    1. "What did I learn?" discussion or game
    2. What am I working on before our next meeting?
    3. Girl Scout Law
    4. Song
    5. Friendship squeeze
